Rosette Cleansing Paste: Japanese Cleanser Guide
Rosette Cleansing Paste (aka Rosette Face Wash Pasta or ロゼット 洗顔パスタ) was first released in 1929. It was Japan’s first facial cleansing cream, in a time when bar soaps were the only option. Over the years their product range has grown exponentially and now maintains a bestseller status. The product range is designed to target a variety of skin concerns, but it can sometimes be hard to know where to start. Hence, I’ve put together this little guide!

Rosette Cleansing Paste: Sulfur Series
The Sulfur Series is classic range of gentle face washes for daily use. The packaging has barely changed since the late 1970’s and the same proprietary manufacturing methods have been used since 1951. The products are packaged in tubs that come with a neat built-in dispenser.
These face washes contain sulfur, a component of hot spring water that helps treat damaged skin and acne. It helps to remove dead skin cells to give skin a soft and smooth texture. The medicated formula is designed to help target acne and prevent breakouts; while olive oil and coconut oil are included to help lock in moisture.

2. Rosette Sulfur Cleansing Paste for Rough Skin
Japanese: ロゼット洗顔パスタ荒性肌
This medicated face wash also gently moisturizes to help prevent rough skin and acne. Specially formulated to be suitable for rough or dry skin.
3. Rosette Sulfur Cleansing Paste for Brightening
Japanese: ロゼット洗顔パスタ ホワイトダイヤ (White Diamond)
This brightening face wash is called White Diamond as it “polishes skin until it sparkles like a diamond.” It contains three brightening powders and ingredients such as fermented rose and honey extract for a clearer complexion. It has a low irritation formula, making it suitable for sensitive skin.
Rosette Cleansing Paste: Clay Series
The Clay Series is a range of cleansers specially designed for various adult skin problems. They contain natural mud (or clay) in variations such as marine clay, white clay, ghassoul and glacier clay to remove dead skin cells and absorb excess oil and other impurities. This helps to reduce dullness and achieve bright healthy skin. These products have been on the market for over a decade and still top Japanese beauty rankings today!
4. Rosette Cleansing Paste Sea Mud Smooth

The bestselling product in this range contains mineral sea mud (aka marine clay) and rose fruit extract to help clean pores and achieve a smooth finish. The sea mud absorbs excess sebum and dirt to clear pores, while the rose fruit extract helps tighten the skin. This product is fragrance free and suitable for treating clogged pores.
5. Rosette Cleansing Paste White Mud Lift
Japanese: ロゼット 洗顔パスタ 白泥リフト
This product contains white mud (aka white clay) for added elasticity and plump skin. It has fine particles that have a cleansing effect to work at removing old skin cells and dirt that cause dullness. Contains hyaluronic acid for moisture, collagen to firm skin and is fragrance free. This product is suitable for achieving moisture and elasticity.

Ghassoul is a natural mineral clay that comes from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and is commonly used in Moroccan skincare and haircare. This formula is designed to target dark spots, has a refreshing herbal scent and contains argan oil to help condition skin. This product is suitable for treating skin dullness.
7. Rosette Cleansing Paste Acne Clear

This moisturizing formula is anti-inflammatory and designed to clear up adult acne. It contains a combination of sea mud and ghassoul to clean away oils and reduce clogged pores, while suppressing inflammation and preventing acne. It has a refreshing herbal fragrance. This product is suitable for sensitive or acne prone skin.
Rosette Cleansing Paste: Age Clear Range
The Age Clear range of cleansers has been developed for mature skin (50+) with a focus on moisture and firmness. One of the key ingredients is egg shell membrane which contains amino acids to improve skin texture and help firm skin. Hyaluronic acid, collagen, fermented rice powder and sake lees are included to help moisturize, while three red oils (pomegranate seed, cranberry seed and raspberry seed oil) help to achieve elasticity. All products have a gentle blooming rose fragrance.

This product is a smooth cleansing cream that also removes makeup. A small amount is applied to the face and massaged gently, before rinsing rinse thoroughly with water and followed with a face wash.

This product is also a makeup remover but in a gel format. It has a fresh-feeling that gently removes makeup from the skin quickly.
10. Rosette Cleansing Paste Age Clear Refreshing Face Wash Foam

This product creates a dense foam with micro bubbles to cleanse, absorb oils and remove dead skin cells and dirt. The dense foam cleanses without friction that can cause dryness and other skin issues.

And finally this product is also a foam, which can be worked up into a dense lather. This variation is more focused on protecting moisture, so the skin is left feeling full and firm.
